Episode 17 - On supporting our relationship with our children

In this episode, I discuss my take on the parent-child relationship and the importance of allowing children to be themselves without needing to be any different.

So often we have expectations of our children that may be unconscious about how they should be in the world and what they need to do to be successful.

We want the best for our children. But what we often don't realise is that rather than pass on our own expectations, that we more than likely received from our own parents, or society or both, we can support our kids to find their own way that is right for them.

When we do this, we set our kids up for being able to develop the confidence to find their own path knowing that we are there to provide them with the support they need.

I share my own experiences as a solo mom and also talk about the fact that children are here to teach us more than we are here to teach them a lot of the time.

This might be a new concept for many of us, including me, because we have been taught that the opposite is true.

I encourage parents to tune into their own responses to their children's behaviour and to notice any expectations they may have. By embracing their children's uniqueness, parents can create a path to authenticity and change the narrative for future generations.
