How To Rebuild Trust In Yourself After Years Of Ignoring Your Inner Voice
Jul 27, 2026
Have you ever had a feeling about something, ignored it, and later wished you'd listened?
Most of us have.
Maybe it was a relationship.
A job.
A friendship.
A decision.
A situation that didn't quite feel right.
At the time, you talked yourself out of it.
You told yourself you were overreacting.
Being dramatic.
Being emotional.
You convinced yourself that everyone else knew better.
Then later, you realised your instincts were trying to tell you something all along.
For many women, particularly those who have experienced difficult relationships, high levels of responsibility, or years of putting others first, trust in themselves slowly erodes.
Not because they aren't intuitive.
But because they've learned not to listen.
Perhaps you've spent years seeking validation from other people.
Checking if your decisions are okay.
Looking for certainty before making a move.
Waiting for someone else to tell you what to do.
Over time, this creates distance between you and your own inner wisdom.
The challenge is that self-trust doesn't disappear.
It simply becomes harder to hear beneath the noise.
Many people think intuition is dramatic.
A lightning bolt.
A huge sign.
A magical moment of certainty.
But often intuition is much quieter.
It can show up as:
A subtle feeling.
A knowing you can't explain.
A sense of expansion.
A feeling of heaviness.
A gentle pull towards something.
A quiet hesitation.
The problem is that when life becomes busy and overwhelming, we stop listening.
We override ourselves.
We rationalise.
We seek more opinions.
We collect more information.
We stay stuck.
One of the most powerful ways to reconnect with your intuition is not to ask:
"What should I do?"
Instead ask:
"What do I already know?"
Pause.
Listen.
Notice.
The answer may not arrive immediately.
And that's okay.
Rebuilding trust takes time.
Like any relationship, the relationship you have with yourself strengthens through consistency.
Every time you honour your instincts.
Every time you listen.
Every time you follow through on what you know to be true.
You strengthen self-trust.
And perhaps that's what many of us are really searching for.
Not more answers.
But a deeper relationship with ourselves.
