Creating Peace: You Don't Have to Earn Rest

Aug 10, 2026

Last week, we gave ourselves permission to dream again.

Maybe, for the first time in a long time, you allowed yourself to imagine a life that felt lighter.

A life where you weren't simply surviving.

A life that felt like yours again.

But this week I'd like to ask another question.

Where would those dreams actually live?

Because dreams need space.

They need quiet moments.

They need energy.

They need room to breathe.

And if your days feel anything like mine used to, there probably isn't much room left.

As single mums, we're often carrying far more than people realise.

Not just the practical things.

The invisible things.

Remembering school excursions.

Knowing which child has suddenly decided they only eat pasta this week.

Booking appointments.

Paying bills.

Keeping everyone emotionally afloat.

Making decisions all day long.

It becomes exhausting.

Not because we're incapable.

Because we're human.

Peace Isn't The Absence Of Noise

For years I believed peace would arrive one day.

"When the kids are older..."

"When finances are better..."

"When life settles down..."

But life doesn't magically settle.

Instead, I realised something.

Peace isn't waiting for us somewhere.

It's created in tiny moments.

A slow cup of tea.

Turning your phone off for half an hour.

Saying no without explaining yourself.

Taking three deep breaths before walking inside after work.

Watching your children laugh instead of rushing them to the next thing.

Peace often arrives quietly.

Almost unnoticed.

You Don't Have To Earn Rest

One belief many mums carry is that rest must be deserved.

I'll rest...

...when the house is clean.

...when everyone else is okay.

...when my to-do list is finished.

But here's the challenge.

The list is never finished.

There will always be washing.

Emails.

Lunchboxes.

Something else needing your attention.

If rest only comes after everything is done...

it rarely comes at all.

Creating A Peaceful Mind

Peace isn't only external.

Sometimes it's the conversation happening inside us.

The voice that says:

"I should be doing more."

"I'm behind."

"I'm failing."

"I'm not enough."

Imagine speaking to yourself the way you'd speak to your closest friend.

Would you rush her?

Criticise her?

Tell her she wasn't doing enough?

Probably not.

Perhaps creating peace begins there.

With gentleness.

Tiny Moments Matter

We often think transformation happens through huge changes.

Sometimes it does.

But more often...

it's found in ordinary moments.

Lighting a candle while making dinner.

Listening to music instead of the news.

Reading one page of a book.

Walking barefoot on the grass.

Watching the sunrise before everyone wakes up.

These moments seem small.

Yet they remind us we're alive.

Peace Is A Gift To Your Children Too

Children don't only benefit from organised homes.

They benefit from peaceful mums.

Not perfect mums.

Peaceful mums.

Mums who laugh.

Who breathe.

Who apologise when needed.

Who know that slowing down isn't laziness.

It's wisdom.

When we create peace within ourselves, we create a different atmosphere for our families too.

Reflection

This week, don't ask yourself:

"What else do I need to do?"

Instead ask:

"What would create five minutes more peace today?"

Because perhaps creating a life you love isn't about changing everything.

Perhaps it's about changing one moment at a time.

One breath.

One boundary.

One peaceful choice.

And before long...

those moments become your life.

With Love
