Why You Feel Stuck (Even When You’re Trying So Hard to Move Forward)

Mar 30, 2026

Feeling stuck can be frustrating.

Especially when you’re:

  • thinking about what to do
  • trying to figure things out
  • wanting things to change

And all while you are juggling everything on your own, taking the kids to appointments, food shopping, trying to get dinner on the table, school lunches made, working to try and bring in enough to pay the rent, helping the kids with their homework etc etc etc.... you are trying so hard!

But nothing seems to move.

The pressure to “just decide”

A lot of solo mums keep telingl themselves:

“I just need to make a decision.”
“I just need to take action.”

And they are often told this by others too.

But when you’re overwhelmed, decision-making doesn’t feel simple.

It can feel like:

  • too many options
  • fear of choosing wrong
  • pressure to get it right
  • mental exhaustion

Decision fatigue is real

When you’re responsible for a lot — especially on your own — you’re constantly making decisions.

Big and small.

Over time, this can create fatigue.

Not because you’re incapable…
but because your capacity is stretched.

Stuck vs protective pause

What we often call “being stuck” can sometimes be a form of pause.

A system that’s saying:

“This is a lot.”
“I need more clarity.”
“I don’t feel safe to move yet.”

Not laziness.
Not failure.

Overwhelm blocks clarity

Clarity doesn’t usually come when there’s:

  • pressure
  • urgency
  • mental overload

It tends to emerge when there’s:

  • space
  • reduced pressure
  • a sense of steadiness

Which can feel hard to access when you’re doing everything.

The weight of doing it alone

If you’re navigating life, parenting, and decisions on your own…

The stakes can feel higher.

Every decision can feel like it carries more weight.

Which can make it harder to move at all.

Reflection & Stuff to Try

You might wish to explore:

  • What feels like “too much” for me right now?
  • Where am I putting pressure on myself to figure everything out at once?
  • What would feel like a small, manageable step — instead of a big decision?

Feeling stuck doesn’t always mean you don’t know what to do.

Sometimes it means…
there’s too much to hold, and not enough space to process it.

Let me know how you go exploring these, and of course reach out with any questions or comments. I LOVE to hear from my readers!
