When You Don’t Know What You Want Anymore
Apr 27, 2026
There’s something that can happen over time…
In the blur of raising kids, managing the household, bringing in the money, keeping thing moving forward...
- When your focus is always on:
- what needs to be done
- what others need
- what’s required of you
You can lose connection with yourself.
Not suddenly… but gradually
That once-confident (perhaps) young woman bright-eyed and bushy-tailed about heading out into the world and diving into a marriage and having children and all the things, is slowly replaced, by an older more hyper vigilant, less trusting woman...
It happens in small ways:
- choosing what’s practical over what you want
- not asking yourself what you need
- focusing outward more than inward
Until one day…
You’re not sure what you actually want.
After all, life has changed so much anyway, and perhaps changed you, and the doing involved in this process just became what you do... just to move forward, to survive.
Why it feels unclear
It’s not that your desires aren’t there.
It’s that there hasn’t been space for them yet.
When your energy is constantly going outward,
there’s little room to tune inward and reconnect to the ebbs and flows that are happening there whether you are aware of them or not.
A gentle way back
So, instead of trying to figure everything out…
You might start with:
What feels:
- slightly interesting
- a bit lighter
- even a small sense of relief
Ask yourself...
- What do I enjoy that I haven’t made time for?
- What feels like “me,” even in small ways?
- Where can I create a little more space?
You don’t have to figure out your whole path.
Sometimes it starts with reconnecting to one small preference.
Or even just asking questions like these... letting them drop into the pond and slowly sink to the bottom, and then noticing what answers come up out of the mud and float to the surface.
What came up for you. Hit reply and send a response because I'd truly LOVE to know.
