Solo Mum Loneliness No One Talks About (Even When You’re Not Alone)
Mar 23, 2026
Loneliness isn’t always about being physically alone.
You can have people around you…
conversations… responsibilities… noise…
And still feel like there’s no one you can really lean on.
The invisible kind of loneliness
This kind of loneliness often lives underneath the surface.
It can feel like:
- having to handle everything yourself
- not wanting to burden others
- being the one others rely on
- not having space to fall apart
Especially if you’ve had to become independent out of necessity.
When independence isn’t a choice
Independence is often seen as a strength.
And it is.
But sometimes, it wasn’t something you chose.
It was something you adapted to.
Because:
- support wasn’t available
- it didn’t feel safe to rely on others
- you learned it was easier to just do it yourself
And over time, that becomes your normal.
The weight of “being the strong one”
When you’re used to being the one who:
- manages everything
- keeps going
- holds things together
It can feel unfamiliar — or even uncomfortable — to be supported.
So even when support is available, it might not fully land.
Emotional isolation
Loneliness can also come from not feeling:
- seen
- understood
- met where you are
You might be surrounded by people…
but still feel like no one really gets what you’re carrying.
A gentle reframe
What if your loneliness isn’t a reflection of your worth?
What if it’s a reflection of:
- how much you’ve had to hold
- how long you’ve been doing it alone
- how little space there’s been for you to be supported
Reflection & Stuff to try
You might wish to explore:
- Where in my life do I feel unsupported?
- What would support actually look like for me?
- Is there a part of me that finds it hard to receive help?
Loneliness doesn’t always mean there’s no one there.
Sometimes it means…
you’ve been the one holding everything for too long.
Let me know how you go exploring these, and of course reach out with any questions or comments. I LOVE to hear from my readers!
